Ms. Knoepfel, or Miss K, as she is known to the kids, is a founding teacher at Broome Street Academy Charter High School, located in The Door.  Miss K graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in 2000 with a B.A. in Directing. After writing and directing various original NY based theater productions, she became a New York Teaching Fellow in 2001, and now has her Masters in Secondary English education. As an adjunct lecturer at City College, teaching coach and executive director of UAB, she is able to instill her passion for quality arts education and relationship building in the next generation of teachers and mentors.

Having worked in N.Y.’s public school system for the past ten years, from East New York to Jamaica, Queens, Miss K has seen many programs succeed and many others fail. Noticing a desperate need for art and music programs in all of the underserved communities in New York, Miss K started to invite artists and community activists into her classroom her first year teaching. The response was so positive she continued to organize guest artists until Urban Art Beat was born!
